Flying Scotsman to visit Swanage Railway

Great excitement for steam train enthusiasts as news broke that the Flying Scotsman will run on the Swanage Railway. It will operate five services a day each way non-stop between Swanage and Norden from 22 to 26 March, 2019. So to help mark the occasion Glenlee is giving guests a free bottle of fizz.

The most famous steam locomotive in the world will reunite with a rare Pullman observation carriage for the first time in almost 50 years.​

The locomotive will be on the Purbeck heritage railway for 20 days,  from 22 March to 10 April, 2019.

Construction of the Flying Scotsman by the London and North Eastern Railway finished in 1923. In 1934 it became the first steam locomotive in the UK to haul a train at 100 miles an hour. The National Railway Museum in York now owns the iconic 97-tonne A3 class locomotive.

For five days from Friday 22 March to Tuesday 26 March inclusive it will haul five seven-carriage trains a day from Swanage to Corfe Castle and Norden. This means public access to stations will be by ticket only.

It will then be on display at Corfe Castle station for 15 days, but enthusiasts will need a ticket to gain access for viewing. It will be coupled to the Devon Belle Pullman observation carriage Car 14.
